Triumph made these cars between 1962 and 1980. My favorite years are 1973-1976, because they introduced the 1500cc engine in '73, and made drastic improvements to the suspension.  Road tests of the day measured an astounding .87g of lateral acceleration (on bias-ply tires).  This is partly due to Triumph's achievement of nearly perfect 50/50 front-to-rear balance.  If you know where I can find a '76 with overdrive, I would very much like to hear from you!

How did the Spitfire stack up against other sportscars of its day?   I've summarized the 1973 Car and Driver track test, pitting it against 7 other cars.  Go here to read my summary along with the test results, and what I suggest to make the Spitfire superior to every car in the test.
